Canadians Media Guide

The Vancouver Canadians are currently enjoying their 30th season out at historic Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Canadians arrived in the Pacific Coast League in 1978 and where managed by Jim Marshall who lead the C's to a 74-65 record which was good enough for 3rd in the PCL's Western Division. In 1978, the Canadians drew more than 123,000 fans out to Nat Bailey Stadium and drew more than six million fans between 1978 and 1999 as a member of the Pacific Coast League. The Canadians won three PCL Championships in the 21 years at the AAA level (1985, 1989 & 1999) before ownership relocated to Sacramento, California (Sacramento Rivercats). Perhaps of all the names and accomplishments that happened while the C's were part of the PCL came back in the summer of 1989 when a journeyman pitcher named Tom Drees threw three 'no-hitters' in one season. Two of them came in consecutive starts! (May 23, May 28, August 11, 1989). The Canadians name lived on even after the departure of the AAA club as the Southern Oregon Timberjacks of the Northwest League relocated to Vancouver in time for the 2000 season taking on the Canadians moniker and the tradition alive locally. Since 2000, the C's have already eclipsed the one million mark in attendance as the Canadians battle in the Northwest League of Professional Baseball. For all nine seasons at the Short-Season A level, the C's have been affiliated with the Oakland Athletics. The A's have drafted and with the help of the C's produced the likes of Rich Harden, Nick Swisher, Travis Buck, Joe Blanton and Kurt Suzuki. All players began with the Canadians and all have since enjoyed time at the Major League level amongst others.
